Archetype Analysis in Sustainability

Hosted by the College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES) of the University of the District of Columbia in Washington DC.

The workshop will provide a highly interactive platform for dialogue and offer opportunities to strengthen the network of researchers investigating archetypes of sustainability with a special focus on urban and peri-urban communities.

The workshop will provide the opportunity to:

• Present and discuss cutting-edge research which uses archetype analysis and its empirical, theoretical and methodological aspects;
• Provide feedback on research in progress and work on joint papers, research proposals and special archetype related topics in small groups;
• Pitch new research ideas and spark interest in collaborative follow-up activities.

The workshop will bring together researchers from different fields of sustainability research including but not limited to land-use science, institutional analysis, scenario analysis, justice studies, and climate change. Previous participants have also published on topics like land use, water use, biodiversity scenarios, climate change adaptation, local environmental policies (see, e.g. Ecology & Society Special Issue and Environmental Research Letters Focus Issue ). It is open to all researchers with experience and/or interest in the archetype approach.

Participation in the workshop is free of charge. However, participants are expected to cover their own travel, accommodations, and some of their meals.

Location: CAUESES' Multipurpose room

Public Transportion: The Van Ness/UDC metro station on the Washington DC metro red line. Nearest Airports: Dulles International Airport and Reagan National Airport.

Fieldtrips: CAUSES' urban agriculture sites located in Washington, D.C. and the Firebird Research Farm will be offered on Tuesday afternoon.

Overnight accommodations: The hotel closest to the conference location is the Days Inn. Reservations can be made directly at the hotel website.
