SATURDAY | NOVEMBER 8 | 1:30 – 3:30 PMNORMA KERSHAW AUDITORIUM | LECTURE & BOOK SIGNING
Presented by Dr. Rune Nyord, Associate Professor of Ancient Egyptian Art and Archaeology at Emory University
This lecture reexamines what we think we know about the ancient Egyptian afterlife. Drawing from his new book Yearning for Immortality, Dr. Rune Nyord shows how many familiar ideas of judgment and eternal reward or punishment come more from Greek and Christian traditions than from ancient Egyptian ones. Attendees will discover fresh ways to read funerary texts and art that reveal a deeper, more authentic glimpse into how the Egyptians understood life, death, and beyond.
Yearning for Immortality is available for purchase in the Gallery Store. A book signing will follow the lecture.
