THIS IS NOT A FREE EVENT. The information below is provided in order for you to make an informed choice about our Adult Learn to Row Camp.

--------------------

Welcome to learning how to row and gaining fitness! This learn-to-row camp is designed for adults who would like to learn how to row and join EBRC's Adult (Masters) Novice Squad.

No experience is necessary. Sessions will be offered at East Bay Rowing Club's (EBRC) Boathouse.

Participants will meet for three weeks at EBRC on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays to learn how to row, get to know EBRC members, and have the opportunity to commit to joining the EBRC Novice Squad at the end of the learn-to-row session.

Rowing is often called the ultimate team sport. Rowing is for everybody, no matter your age, background, ability or size. Get involved with our mission to empower all Bay Area residents through rowing and fitness.

During the April learn-to-row, you will first start out on land on rowing machines (ergs) to learn the rowing motion. Next, all participants will progress to very stable team boats to learn to row together. Newcomers will be paired with experienced rowers, coxswains (boat steerers) and USRowing certified coaches to ensure safety and camaraderie on and off the water. All participants will learn about parts of the boat and rowing equipment and be involved in setting up and cleaning up after practices.

Rowing Attire: we recommend wearing tighter fitting exercise clothing, loose clothing can get stuck under the rowing seat wheels or on an oar. Anything quick-drying, such as lycra, spandex, or polyester is great to wear. In the early mornings it can be chilly on the water, easily removable fleece, water-resistant, or wool layers are also a good idea. A hat and sunglasses can be helpful on later mornings when the sun pops out of the fog.

We acknowledge the financial, cultural, and exclusionary history of rowing. For individuals who are interested in participating in the learn-to-row adult camp, but are experiencing financial difficulty, please complete the Application for Reduced-Fee for consideration for a reduced fee. Contact [email protected] with questions.
