This workshop explores the Preamble of the Social Work Code of Ethics, focusing on solidarity in practice, particularly for Appalachian and rural populations. It examines historical and current mechanisms of oppression that affect social work conduct and offers strategies for fostering empowerment, solidarity, and social justice. Participants will learn key concepts such as oppression, discrimination, and social change, and gain practical skills to address these issues in both professional and personal conduct. The session emphasizes critical self-reflection and provides opportunities for role play and skill-building to reduce harm and promote solidarity.
