Learn the ancient art of apple tree grafting, and take home 2 trees you have chosen and grafted
About this Event

On this course you will learn the ancient art of fruit tree grafting, focusing primarily on the ‘whip and tongue’ technique. All tools and materials will be provided. The barn may be cold, so do wrap up warm!


Date/time: Saturday 1st March, 10am - 2pm


Location: Purple Patch, Watercress Farm, Boiling Wells Ln, Bristol BS2 9XY


Access information: Please note there is no parking here (nearest parking is Stottbury Road)

Schedule: Please see below for the proposed schedule for the day,

there may be some minor adjustments depending on how much

grafting practice individuals need.

10:00 - 10:30am Arrive at the Purple Patch, hot drink and welcome, housekeeping

10.30 - 11am Grafting theory

11am -12.00 Practice grafting cuts and taping

12.00 - 12.20 Tea/coffee break and biscuits

12.20 - 13.30 Choosing varieties and grafting of trees to take home

13.30 - 14.00 Basics for follow on tree care discussed:

- Planting

- Pollination

- Planting


We will be grafting our chosen varieties on to the most versatile semi-vigourous rootstock MM106


Additional rootstocks can be bought at a cost of £4 each and scion wood for £2 per 20cm stick. Please arrange in advance.
