Do you enjoy baking? Is apple pie one of your favorite desserts? Then why not join others just like you who love a warm, delicious apple pie made from scratch, by participating in an apple pie baking contest! Once again, “peel your apples” will be heard Marker-Miller Orchards Farm Market located at 3035 Cedar Creek Grade, Winchester, VA. The contest is slated to start at 9:00 A.M. and pies must be in the oven no later than 10:00 A.M., with judging starting at 12:00 P.M. Spectators and family members are welcome to observe and show support to the contestants.
Contestants must bring apples, all ingredients for the crust measured and ready to use, all utensils, and a clear glass 9” pie plate. Pies will be judged on crust and filling. A score sheet will be given with every application. Prizes for the adult category (ages 17 and older), will be $75.00 for first place and $50.00 for second place. There is a youth category for ages 16 and under with prizes being $50.00 for first place and $25.00 for second place. The winners of this contest will ride in the Firefighters’ Parade and the Grand Feature Parade.
We are looking for the best homemade apple pie. Nothing is as comforting, as nostalgic, or as “a-peeling” as a freshly baked apple pie and how appropriate during the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival®.
