It's Harvest time! We'll be looking to start harvest off in late August with Discovery apples (see image above) then onwards to Katy, Cox, Spartan etc.
We cannot accept Bramley apples until October as these are rarely ripe before then. If you are unsure about the variety, don't worry, it is the ripeness that matters.
As usual we'll be inviting you to drop off your unwanted apples and pears in return for cider. It's really important that we get plenty of local fruit from within 15 miles of Huddersfield to really get that Northern terroir into our cider and perry. We are perfectly happy to have apples from further afield.
To go into our cider, fruit must be:-
ripe
cleanish (though not washed)
sound with unbroken skin.
No need to worry about the odd bruise or skin blemmish as that'll be fine for cider.
The main issue is that the apple needs to be ripe. Cut open a few samples, check the colour of the pip, If it's brown or black then it's ready for picking. If it's white then leave the apples a few weeks and check again.
Apples and pears will be exchanged for cider at the following rates
500ml per full 10kg of fruit delivered (offered immediately)
500ml per 20kg picked (cider delivered later).
Our drop off dates for 2025 are below:
6th and 7th September 11am - 6pm (Taproom open)
Sunday 14th September 11am til 2pm
Sunday 28th September 11am til 2pm
4th/5th October 11am til 6pm (Taproom open)
If you just want to leave your apples at the cidery door, please do, but preferably in containers that you don't want back.
Further dates afterwards released as the season
progresses.
Wassail.
