About Apple Day
You're invited to come with us on our Apple Day and celebrate one of the most underrated fruits; the humble apple! Click here for updates on facebook
This year will be the fifth time we hold our Apple day.
But what is it?
We started the event was because one of our members would collect as many apples as they could from around Southampton, and ended up making more apple juice than they knew what to do with! It got so out of hand we decided to let other people join in, so now you can enjoy sipping this delicious liquid with us, or taking it home to enjoy.
We've now expanded the event to include kids arts and craft activities, guided nature walks for all ages, apple experts, and food and drink using apple juice as an inspiration.
It is always a joy to watch people drink the freshest apple juice there is. There's nothing quite like like it in the shops, this stuff is delicious. We think it tastes even better when you've helped make it.
Please bring something with you like a squash bottle as you'll need containers to take the juice home.
If you have any spare apples, please them along.
Apple expert Chris Bird from Sparsholt College will be joining us with the College Fruit collection, including their National Plant Collection of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Apples. If you have an apple tree in your garden, and would like to know what type of apple it is, they can help you ID it! Simply bring your apples with you and find out!
At 12:00 we will run a guided foraging walk that will take in the nature reserve, collect as many apples as we can, and talk about the richness and diversity of landscape, ecology and culture too.
If you are after some autumn inspiration, we will also be selling pumpkins and squashes for both display and eating. In the past we have also arranged a pumpkin carving competition for Halloween.
We will be selling refreshments including mulled apple juice, cakes, beef and vegan burgers, with chutney or apple sauce, and pumpkin and apple soup (vegan).
