Apocalypse Perth is a verbatim theatre work by Kate Rice that brings to life a true story of art, outrage, and online community. The play begins with a post on the Theatre Australia website, asking for a review of a recent amateur musical production. What follows is an explosive online debate — a “flame war” that spirals out of control.
Through real forum posts, interviews, and personal reflections, Apocalypse Perth explores how words typed behind screens can shape — and sometimes shatter — the creative communities we hold dear. In an age of viral outrage, anonymous opinions, and vanishing accountability, Apocalypse Perth resonates more powerfully now than when it was first written.
This production is a collaboration between current Theatre and Creative Production students and Murdoch Theatre alumni, uniting generations of performers to revisit a story that celebrates theatre, conversation, and the power of storytelling — onstage and online.
