Rylan is 11 years old and was recently diagnosed with aplastic anemia. Rylan was hospitalized on October 12 where he continues to wait for a bone marrow transplant from a donor. This past September was supposed to be Rylan’s first year in middle school at Pulaski Community Middle School. However, based on the doctor’s recommendation he will not be returning to public school for the remainder of this school year. Rylan is a goofy, fun loving kid who hopes to be able to return to his home soon to be with his younger siblings as well as return to having a more normal life. During this time, Rylan’s mom has taken a leave of absence from work to stay by his side at Milwaukee Children’s Hospital and his step-father has reduced his hours at work to care for Rylan’s younger siblings. Once Rylan has received a bone marrow transplant, he will be able to return to home to continue his recovery. However, Rylan will need an air purifier system in the house to assist with germ prevention as Rylan’s immune system is weak. This benefit is to help off-set the cost of living expenses during Rylan’s hospital stay as well as any medical expenses that have and will continue to incur during this difficult time.
