March 12 + 19 (6-9pm) Over the course of this two-day workshop, we’ll explore the bandsaw as a powerful and surprisingly versatile tool by diving into the clever, whimsical world of bandsaw boxes. Students will learn how to design and create custom containers and keepsake boxes using the bandsaw, whether that means transforming odd-shaped scraps into something special or building a box perfectly suited to a unique object.
Through demonstration, hands-on practice, and iteration, we’ll challenge traditional box-making methods and discover alternative approaches that embrace curves, negative space, and creative problem-solving. This class is a foray into thinking differently about both design and process, all while building small, functional works of art.
An assortment of kiln-dried wood will be provided for use during the class, and by the end of the two sessions, each student will leave with a bandsaw box and a deeper understanding of the bandsaw’s creative potential.
