Newport Civic Centre is the seat of government for the city of Newport, South Wales and is a Grade II* Listed building in the Art Deco style. The base of the completed clock tower contains a collection of 12 murals by the German artist Hans Feibusch, commissioned in the 1960s and completed in 1964. They depict the history of the City from Celtic times to the building of the George Street Bridge over the River Usk.
Reception is manned between 8.30am – 5.00pm.
The main entrance is at the top of the hill and is the area that holds the murals. Once entering the reception area you will be asked to sign the entry register, provided with a visitors pass and allowed through the electronic doors to see the murals.
The murals are on two floors accessible by stairs and a lift, (please ask for advice on the lift - the second floor of the murals is floor 1 on the lift control - leave the lift through the doors in front of you and turn left).
There is no parking available other than the pay and display car park at the bottom of the hill. Blue badge holders - stop at the barrier, press the voice activated button and then explain the reason they wish to enter to access disabled parking.
Toilets and accessible toilets are available on the ground floor and floor 1. There is a set of doors at the rear of reception which enters a small portico with a vending machine for drinks and confectionery, with some seating there to view the murals
