About Woolston Concert Brass
Woolston Concert Brass, led by Music Director Matt Toomata, is a B Grade band registered with the Brass Band Association of New Zealand (BBANZ) and part of the Woolston Brass Academy. Currently holding the B Grade Champion title with the Canterbury Provincial Brass Band Association (CPBBA), the band is made up of talented brass and percussion musicians. Many of its members go on to join Christchurch’s renowned Woolston Brass (A Grade), celebrated for its musical excellence, versatility as a stage performer, and status as New Zealand’s most successful contesting band.
As part of the Woolston Brass Academy, Woolston Concert Brass plays a key role in the Academy’s education programme, which includes two training bands—Woolston Concert Brass and Woolston Junior Band—as well as a learners’ group. With over 150 children and adults involved, the programme provides a supportive environment for developing musical skills and engaging with the community through concerts and competitions at both local and national levels.
About Nor’west Brass
Nor’west Brass, led by Music Director Nic Scott, is the organisation’s flagship band and comprises its most advanced players. Registered as a C Grade band with the Brass Band Association of New Zealand (BBANZ), Nor’west Brass also operates additional training bands and a learners’ group, with around 80 active playing members. The band regularly competes in local and national brass contests and is dedicated to sharing music with the community through performances and events.
