Anya Hinkle
Born in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia, Anya Hinkle's music is steeped in the tones of folk and bluegrass and seasoned by travels across the world with vivid storytelling, vibrant musicianship, and arresting honesty. She won the 2019 Merlefest Chris Austin song contest and was runner-up in the International Acoustic Music Awards in 2022. PopMatters calls her “A burgeoning force behind the Appalachian roots revival…” and No Depression says of music on her 2021 release Eden and Her Borderlands “...one of roots music’s gems so far this year.” The record was “Bubbling Up” under the AMA’s top 50 Americana Albums chart for several weeks after its release. Several songs from the record landed on Spotify editorial playlists such as Indigo, Grass Roots, and Emerging Americana, as well as numerous top 10 chart placements for Bluegrass Today’s Grassicana Weekly Airplay chart. Anya, formerly of the Asheville, NC-based bands Tellico (Organic Records) and Dehlia Low (Rebel Records), tours extensively in the US, Japan and Europe, and is working on her second solo album. Anya appears with Billy Cardine, recognized as a slide guitar pioneer, effortlessly taking the dobro into unchartered genres. Jerry Douglas calls him “…an amazing Dobro player...fluent in everything that I do and…everybody that has come before. I couldn’t…pick a better example of where the Dobro is now or what the possibilities are with the instrument.” Billy has performed his original compositions at Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, and the The Grand Ole Opry.
