Ex-Easter Island Head
Ex-Easter Island Head are a UK-based experimental musical collective composing and performing music for solid body electric guitar, percussion and other instruments. The group plays multiple electric guitars augmented through mechanical preparations and extended techniques, creating hypnotic performances rich in repetition, shimmering drones and melodic invention through purposefully limited means.
Their records and live performances have received significant critical acclaim from the likes of The Wire, Pitchfork, the Quietus and the New York Times. Favourably compared to the likes of Steve Reich, Glenn Branca and John Cage, the groups' music has been praised for its mixture of percussive drive, emotional warmth and playful experimentation.
They have performed in venues ranging from the tiny Scottish island of Iona to a 150-year-old brewery in Berlin, with major festival appearances including ATP, Supersonic and Le Guess Who? Collaborators have included the BBC Philharmonic, composer Arnold Dreyblatt and musicians Laura Cannell, Charles Hayward and Andre Bosman in the group Whistling Arrow.
Their library music releases Mechanical Landscapes 1 & 2 released by EMI/KPM have seen the group’s work used internationally for television and radio productions, whilst the groups’ own Large Electric Ensemble projects have seen the core quartet joining forces with forward-thinking musicians to make ambitious large scale performances across the UK and EU.
The group’s latest album Norther (2024) is available through Rocket Recordings.

“Free flowing genius”
– The Guardian
“Rarely do beauty and urgency come quite so tightly intertwined”
- The Quietus
"Churning pulses, alternate tunings and dense harmonic worlds... all the strings being heard at once"
– The New York Times
“Repetition and rumbling resonances bringing to mind Rhys Chatham's seminal works with tone and John Cage's rhythmic sensibilities”
- Pitchfork
“A three chord punk mission statement turned into a neo-classical manifesto”
- The Wire
“You must see this group. They are minimalist noise art but come on like entertainment. Absolutely captivating, classy, beautiful and sublime”

Kar Pouzi
Helen Papaioannou’s solo project melds baritone saxophone & electronics into singular textures which move between excessive, fractured beats, ecstatic drones and incessant repetitions. Heavy, playful, unrelenting.
Helen is a composer and performer based in Leeds. Some of her other projects have included That Long Moonless Chase with Noriko Okaku, Garlic Hug, Beauty Pageant, Hokkett.
Helen Papaioannou’s compositions and performances draw from her varied experiences across electronic music, DIY band scenes, improvised musics, and experimental ensemble compositions. She is based in Leeds (UK).
Across her work, Helen’s style derives partly from a fascination with minimal sound palettes and procedural, evolving repetitions, matched with an unrelenting intensity that spills out into music that is at once stark, visceral, playful, and precarious. She indiscriminately mixes a jigsaw of ideas, techniques and sounds from cultures of industrial, drone, no wave, contemporary composition, and electronic music. She has featured at MATA (USA), HCMF (UK), Supersonic (UK), Supernormal (UK), Kanazawa 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art (JP), and across tours in UK, Europe and Japan.
Helen’s ensemble compositions have often played with systems that intensify a focus on the interpersonal and social aspects of coordinating rhythmic actions or patterns. She explores this in various ways, from traditionally notated music revolving around hocketing, interlocking parts or persistent unison rhythms, to instructional text scores which focus on rules for patterns and systems of interactions in game-like scenarios.
Helen collaborates with various artists, from her audiovisual performances with Noriko Okaku, moving image scores, projects with researchers in sciences and social sciences, to improvised performances with a range of musicians. Helen is currently part of an improvised electronics and percussion duo with Charlie Collins, focusing on very quiet sounds.

ADRA
Andy Abbott is an artist, musician and writer who lives in West Yorkshire, UK. 'ADRA' is the name under which he releases improvised or more experimental work.
Previous releases include tapes and vinyl for Bloxham Tapes, Reverb Worship and Folklore Tapes. He has collaborated with Alice Hubble, Aby Vulliamy and Dean McPhee; and toured the UK with Italian solo guitarists Maurizio Abate and Above the Tree, and Norway’s Soft Noise Ensemble.
In 2023 Andy worked as a Creative Practitioner in psychiatric wards in Yorkshire as part of an NHS pilot scheme run by Creative Minds and Everybody Arts. The resulting compositions that he constructed as part of this project now make up a finished album: Music for Psychiatric Wards (and Fluid Structures).
“This is another solo project helmed by the Bradford based musician Andrew DR Abbott, whose work cartwheels through genres the way fat old men wish they could move through cheese. It is the first documentation of ADRA, and it’s quite a package ... The music is improvised on a variety of instruments (from baritone guitar to ocarina), and the pieces are designed to inspire us to dream of a post-capitalist utopia. Since I do that all the time already, this is just the sort of thing I should be listening to. As should you. A great offering of the minimal as maximal.” - Byron Coley for The Wire, 2020
