Temple Israel Anti-Racism Task Force invites you for a book discussion with Dr. Tara Hayes, for a thought-provoking conversation of Percival Everett's novel JAMES.The novel is a re-imagining of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain but narrated by Huckleberry's friend on his travels, the fugitive slave Jim, rather than by Huck, as in the original. Challenging perceptions of race and humanity with humor, sharp observation, and deep intelligence, Jim navigates freedom while concealing his literacy and agency from his oppressors.
