About:
A great opportunity to create photographic images using extracts from flowers and plants, collected locally, linking to the history of Walsall Arboretum, learning how to create beautiful prints using natural materials with specialist artist Nettie Edwards. This rarely offered experimental workshop will take place in The Seedhouse Room at the Arboretum Visitor Centre. Don't miss out on this opportunity to explore early 'photo-graphic' processes and be part of the SE.E NE.W Histories project, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Trinity Buoy Wharf Trust.
The aptly named Seedhouse Room will be used for two plant-based imaging workshops inspired by the pioneering work of early photographers such as Elizabeth Fulhame in the 1790s and Mary Somerville in the 1820-40s, using natural ingredients such as leaves, flowers and vegetables, to create light-sensitive emulsions and developers. This fits very well with the Arboretum and will promote more understanding and appreciation of what the natural world has to offer, as well as improving wellbeing in our participants. These workshops are part of the SE.E NE.W Histories public engagement programme supported by the Heritage Fund and Trinity Buoy Wharf Trust
Note to participants: although this process is non-toxic we will provide protective gloves/aprons and it is recommended that participants wear old clothing, as plant solutions can stain.
