Composer, Anthony Vine in collaboration with multi-instrumentalist, composer, and instrument designer, Daniel Fishkin, will present the original soundtrack to Catalina's anthology film Sound Spring. The film explores the history of Yellow Springs, Ohio over hundreds of years, as narrated by its residents in comical scenes. The soundtrack draws on the film's "location sound," the mechanical hums and clanks, the murmurs and rushes of nature sounding in the background of each scene. Musicians improvise with these sounds, making scenes of their own, evoking characters and places from traces of the film. The soundtrack for Sound Spring was created with the generous support of The Johnstone Fund for New Music.Anthony Vine is a composer based in Brooklyn, New York. He creates music about spirituality, beauty, and sound itself. His work across different media, including performance, installation, and sound sculpture, is minimal in form, yet acoustically dynamic and deeply emotive. He is the recipient of the 2024 Rome Prize in Musical Composition at the American Academy in Rome.
Zach Hannah, the Johnstone Fund’s Poet in Residence, will recite a poem revealing his interpretation of the program.
