About this event
Anthony Adkins BEM returns to St Richard's for the 30th year. The concert takes place in St Richard's School Hall with interval refreshments served in the church. Typically proceeds from Anthony's concerts have been split between the church and a charity but this year's, as last year's, is a fundraiser for St Richard's Church Restoration Appeal. As the church, which is now a listed building, reaches the 60th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone, the roof covering urgently needs replacing and major repairs are required to the damaged beams and windows. The concert interval in the church provides an opportunity to find out more about how the project is progressing as we try to secure the church's future in the community for the next 60 years.

About Anthony Adkins BEM
Anthony Adkins was born in Northampton, educated in London and won scholarships to both the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music. Accepting the latter, he studied for five years with Eric Harrison and Bernard Roberts and represented the college in foreign tours and master classes, including some with Nadia Boulanger. He was a finalist in the Chappell Gold Musical Competion.
Soon after leaving the Royal College of Music, New Era International Concerts awarded him a London debut recital at the Wigmore Hall. The concert was received with such rare critical acclaim that he was invited back only six months later. He then won the coveted Chopin Fellowship from the Polish government enabling him to work with the eminent Professor Jan Hoffman at the Academy of Music in Krakow. On completion of these intensive studies Professor Hoffman's assessment was profoundly simple - 'a great artist'.
Since then, Anthony Adkins has played for innumerable important occasions and has frequently appeared at the Wigmore Hall and the South Bank, London. He has toured the UK extensively and engagements abroad have included Austria, France, Germany, Holland, Hong Kong, Poland, Sri Lanka, Switzerland and the USA.
Anthony Adkins has often been invited to be on jury panels for international piano competitions, including in Poland and Hong Kong. A programme about him was recorded for BBC Radio and he has broadcast on on Radio Poland as well as appearing on German and Sri Lankan television. Engagements this year include sitting on the jury as the UK representative at the Chopin International Competion for Children and Youth in Poland, and performances in Bath, Norwich, Ognisko Polish Hearth Club London, Oxford and St Brides in Fleet Street. Tonight's concert is the 30th in his series at St Richard's, in which he has already raised more than £50,000. Anthony was awarded the British Empire Medal in King Charles' Birthday Honours 2023.
His outstanding reviews from far and wide confirm and emphasise the extent of his formidable international reputation:

'A brilliant pianist' Sudkurier/Germany

'Adkins is the devil of a pianist' Fairfield Hall/UK
