Every oud player alive today owes something to Anouar Brahem. With eleven albums at ECM Records to his name, the Tunisian musician has breathed new life into a thousand years of Arabic musical tradition. He has linked it to jazz, Western classical music and other Eastern music cultures. What’s more, he has been able to attract the cream of artists from those genres. True to form, he is coming to Bozar with an all-star quartet: not only the living bass legend Dave Holland and the multi-talented guitarist Django Bates – both of whom are Brahem’s former bandmates – but also the cellist Anja Lechner. Her improvisations bridge the gap between contemporary and traditional, East and West. This phenomenal foursome is the core crew of Brahem’s next recording on ECM.
FR ― Aujourd'hui, il n’y a pas un joueur d’oud qui, d’une manière ou d’une autre, ne soit l’héritier d’Anouar Brahem. Avec onze albums à son actif chez ECM Records, le musicien tunisien a insufflé une nouvelle vie à la tradition millénaire de la musique arabe. Il l'a associée au jazz, à la musique classique occidentale et à d'autres cultures musicales orientales. De plus, il a réussi à attirer la crème des artistes de ces genres. Il monte dès lors sur la scène de Bozar entouré d’un trio de haut vol, avec la légende vivante de la contrebasse Dave Holland et le guitariste aux multiples talents Django Bates, tous deux anciens collaborateurs de Brahem, mais aussi la violoncelliste Anja Lechner, dont les improvisations jettent un pont entre le contemporain et le traditionnel, entre l'Orient et l'Occident. C’est avec ce quartet polyvalent que Brahem signera son prochain enregistrement chez ECM.

Met elf albums op zijn naam bij ECM Records blies de Tunesische muzikant de duizend jaar oude Arabische muziektraditie nieuw leven in. Hij koppelde ze aan jazz, westerse klassieke muziek en andere oosterse muziekculturen. Bovendien wist hij uit die genres het neusje van de zalm aan artiesten te strikken. Naar Bozar zakt hij dan ook af met een all-star kwartet: niet alleen levende baslegende Dave Holland en multigetalenteerde gitarist Django Bates – beiden vroegere compagnons van Brahem – maar ook celliste Anja Lechner. Haar improvisaties maken de brug tussen hedendaags en traditioneel, tussen oost en west. Dit veelzijdig viertal ligt aan de basis voor de volgende opname van Brahem op ECM.
