About this Event
Training One: De-escalation and Bystander Intervention
This training will teach workshop participants skills in de-escalation techniques as well as bystander intervention. Led by Emma Nguyen, this training was shaped by her own experiences in protest and movement spaces on both the East and West Coast over the last 10+ years. From topics like dealing with counter protestors, to stepping in to intervene in harassment, this workshop will provide attendees with safety strategies for themselves and their community. There will also be time for group breakouts to role play techniques we learn.
Join us at 6pm at First Congregational Church of Hendersonville. Use the White Pine St. Entrance. This training is hosted by Hendersonville Pride & the Progressive Alliance of Henderson County.
About the "Another World Is Possible" Training Series:
“We keep us safe” is a chant you’ll hear at many protests, but what are some of the specific ways an individual can actually do something? This two-part workshop series (Deescalation Training on 7/9, followed by the Narcan/Nalaxone training on 8/25) will teach people concrete tools they can use to create real safety in their communities. These workshops are for anyone who ever wished they had more options than calling 911 for every problem. From de-escalation to helping someone experiencing an overdose, these training sessions are designed to empower our community and teach us that - we are who we’ve been waiting for.
“Another world is necessary. Another world is possible. Another world is happening.” - Grace Lee Boggs.
