Veterans for Peace - Chapter 14 invites you to our Annual Peace Poetry and Peace Scholarship Awards Ceremony, happening Saturday, May 18th, from 2pm to 3:30pm at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Gainesville.Every year we coordinate with parents and teachers to get our area K-12 kids thinking about peace and social justice and to express their feelings through poetry. This year we received hundreds of original submissions, all of which were presented to a panel of judges.
22 of the most inspiring poems were then selected and the young poets were invited to read their poems at this event. Each winner will be awarded a certificate and a gift card to a local bookstore and their poems will be published in The Annual Peace Poetry Book.
We will also recognize the recipients of this year’s Peace Scholarship. Four individuals who intend to pursue careers focused on increasing peace and social justice in our local community will each receive $1.5K to assist with their continuing education.
Please join us in celebrating our inspirational youth and future leaders, while bringing attention to peace and social justice as worthy goals, by attending this event! There will be music and refreshments on top of everything else. Hope to see you there!
