Annual General Meeting, come along to save our Branch

• Do you have a few hours a month to spare as a volunteer?
• Would you like to help turnaround the branch?
• Are you passionate about helping others within our community especially veterans and their families?
• If so read on……
We are actively recruiting members of the community to help support the branch which is at risk of closure. Our current Branch Chairman and Treasurer are looking to stand down after supporting the branch over several years. There are several positions available such as Branch Chair, Branch Treasurer and committee members. To fulfil these roles, you will need to be a member of The Royal British Legion (RBL) however to come along to a meeting to see what we do you don’t have to be a member.
It is important to note that you don’t have to be a member of the military family to become a member of the RBL, anyone can join
What is required to fulfil the roles?
• For positions such as Branch Treasurer and Branch Chair you will be required to undertake online training to access the RBLs online resources as well as a commitment to regularly access your specific Microsoft 365 account which will give you access to a designated email account which must be used for all RBL business and be a visible member of the Branch. You will also work closely with the Branch Secretary to fulfil the branches responsibilities.
• For committee members you will support the Branch Chair, Branch Treasurer, Branch Secretary and fellow committee members with enthusiasm as we endeavour to rebuild the Branch’s activities and presence within the community.
• As Branch members we want to engage with you, to share ideas and more importantly to raise the profile of the RBL within our community.
What do you need to do?
• Register your interest regarding what position you are interested in by emailing the Branch Secretary at [email protected] or via telephone 07773185083 (please leave a message and your phone number if I am unable to take your call).
• If you would like to join the RBL as a member (join either by accessing the RBL's webpage or ringing 0800 307 7773) membership is open to everyone at a cost of £22 per annum, or if you are currently a serving member of the military it is free. As a member you will receive regular updates from the RBL directly as well as membership offers including priority access to tickets for the Festival of Remembrance, access to purchase members-only products from the Poppy Shop and a 15% discount on other products. You will receive an annual membership card and the ability to join up to 4 branches or clubs.
• Please contact the Royal British Legion directly if you have any queries regarding becoming a member on 0800 307 7773
What happens if we are unable to recruit to the position of Branch Chair, Branch Treasurer and committee members?
• The Branch would close. None of us want this to happen, Stone has a thriving community with many veterans, their families as well as currently serving military personnel living here. The Branch recently purchased a new Standard (for individuals reading this who are not from a military background, a Standard is a flag specifically designed for the Branch which is proudly shared at events by the Branches Standard Bearer. For those of you who have attended the Towns Remembrance events you will have seen the RBLs Standard as well as Standards from other organisations such as the Air Cadets, Army Cadets, Brownies, Scouts etc. all shown with great pride).
• The Branch could apply to County to become a County Supported Branch. If approved this would mean that we would come under the control of the County Committee for a period of 3 years with the associated restrictions this would ensure. However, what we want to happen is:
• We want to engage with the community, to raise the profile of the RBL and more importantly to support our serving military personnel, veterans and their families. To do this, we need your support, come and join us at the AGM where the future of our branch will be determined. Please come and help us.
AGM to be held Thursday 20th November at 19:00 – 20:00, St Dominics Social Centre, Station Road, Stone, ST15 8EW
