It is with great excitement that I tell you that the Annual Downtown St. John's Christmas Parade has been given the GREEN light! Once again this year, the Dachshunds of NL Group will be walking in the parade. Our theme is "Walking in a Winter Wonderland"
This year will mark the 18th Year!!!!
A few details you will need to know:
What To Do When You Arrive:
-Upon arrival, tell a Parade Marshall (individuals in orange vests) that you are here with the Dachshunds of NL Group! They will provide you with guidance on where we are located (e.g.: what row). I did request for us to be near the front of the parade, so paws crossed we are. I also asked to be distanced from the loud marching bands.
Meeting Time:
-The parade commences at 12:00pm sharp!!! Hence we are technically expected to be there around 11:00am as we are a walking group. I usually brave the cold and I tell the rest of the gang - aka - you fine folks to be there around 11:30-11:40am at the latest. You want to give some time for a few pictures and to get yourself situated - potty the pooch and so forth. The parade waits for no one, so please be on time.
Location:
-We will be assembling on the Fort William Building Parking Lot on Factory Lane (behind the Sheraton Newfoundland Hotel). All entries must enter via the Empire Ave. entrance, just off Forest Road. The Parade now ends at Springdale Street!!
-There is NO PARKING AVAILABLE IN THE AREA, therefore participants should plan to be dropped off. Carpooling for groups should definitely be considered. The only vehicles allowed on the Parade lot are those traveling in the Parade. The overflow lot on Forest Road will be used for Parade set up as well, buses dropping off marching bands, etc. My suggestions for parking would be perhaps the Miller Centre or Dominion down by Quidi Vidi. If you do this, make sure you have someone at the end to pick you up and bring you back to your car.
Finally remember to dress you and your dog warm. Wear layers, festive Christmas hats, and be sure to have your dog decked out in Christmas gear or coats to help keep them warm. For those who wonder if their dog will make it the entire way, they usually do. However it is perfectly fine to pick up your dog and give their paws a break if you like. 🙂 Or of course you can bring along a wagon or puppy stroller.
Thank you to each of you who are attending and keeping the tradition alive!
This year will mark our 16th year in the parade!!! Amazing!!! 😃
