Our Annual Black Heritage Backpack Giveaway was today and it was a HUGE SUCCESS!! Together we collected and gave out more than 350 fashionable backpacks, with supplies along with 70 e-tablets!A huge thank you to everyone who contributed by donating backpacks, school supplies, boxed food, and time. You’ve given these children the gift of starting off the school year on equal footing with new shoes, new school supplies and a sense of confidence! We do it because there are a lot of families out there who can’t even afford a backpack for school. So, these kids have to carry supplies by hand and in some cases, can’t even buy school supplies. This year’s giveaway was especially exciting as students returned to the classroom after a year of distance learning. The pandemic has been hard on all of us, but no one has suffered more than our youth. The backpack giveaway provides our students with the materials they need for the new school year and are one way we can help ease financial burdens of our families.
