On January 10th, ring in the new year at Kaffé 1870 with Annie Martel and Woods Of Light, and join us for an intimate evening of song and stories. Annie Martel is a Canadian singer-songwriter and one of Ottawa’s jewels. Martel’s sincere, contemplative songs are anointed by her unequivocal voice and thoughtful musical style. Her sound is driven by warm, dark tones: aged guitar strings, dusty piano, and velvet vocals. It evokes the soft nostalgia of fuzzy, black and white film clips; ones we want to replay over and over until morning.
Martel has a special way of engaging with complex human themes through her music, finding healing and release through the magic of songwriting and offering listeners the same opportunity.
Woods Of Light is the stage name and primary artistic outlet of singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Brian Gunther, based in the Ottawa, Canada area. Woods Of Light's music is rooted in a diverse, acoustically-driven indie/folk sound. His debut album, Newcastle Park, is an intensely autobiographical and nostalgic concept album evoking memories of youth in the 1990s, delving into themes of family and friendships, and detailing the bittersweet transition into adulthood. His live show is made up of performing solo acoustic renditions of his songs, often involving intricate finger-picking patterns, open guitar tunings, atypical time signature changes, evocative lyrics, and the sharing of many anecdotes and stories, which allow him to connect with the audience via relatable and ubiquitous experiences that are part of the human condition.
