Anna Bergman “thrills you with the sheer aural sensation of her voice” (THE WALL STREET JOURNAL) and is hailed by THE WASHINGTON POST as “a vocal citizen of the world who has triumphed in everything from Broadway tunes to opera arias and the sultry innuendoes of a cabaret chanteuse.” She has performed roles in musicals, operas, plays and has been a soloist for Queen Elizabeth’s Birthday/60th Jubilee, in Carnegie Hall’s Ira Gershwin Centennial and Vienna, City of Dreams Festival, at the White House, with major international music festivals, symphony orchestras and on television including her own PBS concert “A SALON WITH ANNA BERGMAN.”
Anna is delighted to perform her third show for Classical Movements’ Secret Garden Series. In her new show “YOU & THE NIGHT & THE MUSIC: From Porter to Puccini,” Anna, and her accompanist Howard Breitbart, will serenade you with beloved songs from Broadway musicals and films by Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, George & Ira Gershwin, Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein, Michel Legrand, Charles Trenet, Johann Strauss, Noel Coward, Giacomo Puccini, Don Mclean and signature songs for Edith Piaf and Marlene Dietrich.

Concerts are presented at 5pm and 6:30pm. This event will take place at the Rectory in our Secret Garden. Concerts take place rain or shine, but in the case of severe weather, we may move this event indoors.

ANNA BERGMAN performs internationally in concerts, cabaret, theatre, opera, music festivals, with symphony orchestras, on television and recordings. Highlights include: soloist at the White House and for HM Queen Elizabeth’s birthday, Lincoln Center’s American Songbook, Carnegie Hall’s centennial tribute to Ira Gershwin & “Vienna City of Dreams Festival 2014,” Kennedy Center’s Sondheim Celebration in “A Little Night Music,” “The Light In The Piazza” in concert as Margaret with Matthew Morrison at The Intiman Theatre, Seattle and numerous music festivals including Aspen, Chicago Humanities and International Festival of Cardiff Wales. Anna has starred as soloist with numerous symphony orchestras and on BBC & PBS television specials including Johnny Mercer’s Centennial and her own concert “A Salon with Anna Bergman” produced by Maryland Public Television.
The daughter of an American diplomat, Anna is a cross-over artist who enjoys singing in multiple languages and in styles ranging from popular song and Broadway tunes to French chanson, German kabaret, Neopolitan songs, operetta and opera. Anna has garnered critical acclaim for her solo concerts and cabarets at such venues as The Kennedy Center, Strathmore Music Center, Arts Club of Washington, Corcoran Gallery of Art, British Embassy, Feinstein’s 54 Below and Loews Regency, The Kravis Center & Colony Hotel’s Royal Room (Palm Beach), Cape May Stage’s Broadway Series, Guild Hall (East Hampton) & Westhampton Performing Arts Center, Le Chat Noir (New Orleans), Manaus Opera House (Brazil), London’s Café Royal and in private salons for a Russian Oligarch in Moscow and the Prince of Saudi Arabia at New York’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Theatre and opera credits include The Kennedy Center, Arena Stage, Shakespeare Theatre, Studio Theatre, Ford’s Theatre, Wolftrap & N. Virginia Opera, in roles ranging from Kate (“Kiss Me Kate”), Guenevere (“Camelot”), Jenny (“The Beggar’s Opera”) and Cordelia (“Falsettoland”) to Masha (“Three Sisters”), Donny (“The Cryptogram”), Valencienne (“The Merry Widow”), Rose (world premiere opera “Blood on the Dining Room Floor”) and Dona Ana (“Don Juan in Hell” with Sam Waterston and Dick Cavett). HOWARD BREITBART, PIANO
A native of Miami,FL, Howard received his music degree in piano performance from The University of Maryland in College Park. He has become a much in demand musician for many theaters and productions throughout the DC area. He toured with the political satire troupe “The Capitol Steps” for 27 years Now he is performing with a new group, The Reflecting Fools. Howard accompanied vocalist/actor Norm Lewis at the Kennedy Center’s Eisenhower Theatre and vocalist Susan Derry at Feinstein’s 54 Below in NYC. Howard’s favorite shows that he has musically directed include “Closer Than Ever” at Metro Stage, Alexandria, VA. “Carolyn Or Change” at Studio Theatre, Washington, DC; “Broadway Christmas Carol” at Metro Stage, “Christmas Carol” at Ford’s Theatre, “Broadway Holiday” at Classic Theatre Of Maryland, “Most Happy Fellow” at Palm Beach Dramaworks, Palm Beach, FL. and numerous cabarets at Signature Theatre, Arlington, VA. Recently, Howard accompanied productions of “Beauty & The Beast” at Stone Ridge School, Bethesda, MD and “Into The Woods” at Fairfax High School.

Many parking garages and lots are located conveniently in the area. There is a parking garage at N. Alfred St Garage, 117 N. Alfred St, $5/hr ($25 daily max, $10 evening max) and a surface parking lot at Cameron/St Asaph Lot, 517 Cameron St, $2.50/hour ($10 daily max, $5 evening/weekend max). Visitors are encouraged to bike, walk or take the Metrorail Yellow or Blue lines to the King Street Station and take the free King Street Trolley, or DASH or Metro buses. About the Rectory
Built in 1785 and the home of Classical Movements’ offices since 2014, the building formerly served as the rectory of the nearby historic Christ Church, once the church of George Washington. Since then, it has been owned by several distinguished Virginians and has been a commercial space since the 1960’s.
Located in the heart of beautiful Old Town Alexandria at 711 Princess Street, the Rectory is minutes away from the shops and restaurants of bustling King Street and is easily accessible by bus and metro.
