Welcome to our 47th season opening concert featuring music of The Americas. “The Americas!” showcases vibrant rhythms, exquisite harmonies and highly energetic passages evoking images and celebrations of Native Americans with Hispanic influences from the Canadian Cree Nation to North and South America. Other pieces showcase music from the Great Lakes, Southeast and Southwest regions. Selections include “Bayou Breakdown” by Brant Karrick, “Entre Amigos” by Ruben Dario Gomez, “29 Bells” – Dedicated to the memory of the 29 sailors who perished aboard the Edmund Fitzgerald, November 10, 1975, by Willard Zirk, with captivating visuals, Julie Giroux’s “Carnaval!”, Oscar Navarro’s “Libertadores” with vibrant clapping, singing and elaborate percussive rhythms, “Sonoran Desert Holiday”, by Ron Nelson and MORE!There will be a pre-concert talk with composer Willard Zirk on his composition “29 Bells” in the Main Auditorium.
