20 years ago, on October 28, 2004, the Animefest Japanese animation festival opened at the "Riga" cinema. It was the very first festival of its kind in the Baltic countries, where popular anime hit the big screen and a mysterious "cosplay" started becoming a movement that shaped an entire generation.

Anime and cosplay might be mainstream now, but it was on October 28, 2004, when this story began in Latvia and across the Baltic region.

So, for everyone who remembers how it all started, and everyone who kept the spirit going all these years in Riga and beyond, join us on November 30, 2024, at Laska Bar (Vagonu iela 21A) to celebrate!
