Free talk at St. Werburghs Community Centre Thurs 6th June 2024 at 7.45pm
You are very welcome to attend this free presentation.
Although in the modern world there are probably as many ‘meanings’ for dream symbols as there are dreams and dreamers, when one dreams of an animal there is often a certain presence, or power, that suggests a special articulation of consciousness. In the same way that living animals in nature have very particular characteristics, the human ‘collective unconscious’ has special reservoirs of meaning associated with the different species. We can find these in folk tales and legends as well as in bestiaries and in shamanic practices.
Many cultures in the ancient world had ‘dream dictionaries’ that were consulted by priests and healers when ‘interpreting’ a client’s dreams. Although dreamwork has long evolved beyond this one-size-fits-all approach, it can be very interesting to be aware of some of the mythical and traditional associations of animal symbols from around the world.
Perhaps you are already aware that you have a personal affinity with one or more types of creature.
So come along to St. Werburghs on Thursday 6th June. Bring your animals (I don’t mean physical pets!) and your curiosity and we’ll have an adventure!
This free presentation, whilst being a stand-alone event, will be followed the next week (Fri/Sat 14/15 June) by an interactive workshop also in Bristol, ‘Dreaming with Animals’, where participants will have the opportunity to work in depth with their own dreams.
