About this Event
Weekly Meeting: Thursdays 5:00-7:00pm
Animal Apprentices Club provides youth with a positive experience of active involvement in our shelter through learning as much as possible about all animals while enjoying fun experiences at the shelter. The more we know about animals, their needs and behaviours, the better we are able to be their friends!
Throughout The Program, Our Animal Apprentices Will...
- Learn about the humane treatment of all animals
- Learn about the needs of all domestic animals in the shelter
- Learn about wild animals and their habitats
- Be able to identify body language signs for dogs, cats, bunnies, and more
- Understand how to respond to different body languages of animals
- Learn ways to be a pet’s best friend and how to properly play with companion animals
- Learn about animal habitats and pet care
- Create fun and engaging animal crafts
- Experience special animal visits to help develop skills and knowledge about the animals at Calgary Humane Society

Before enrolling, we encourage families to discuss the program with their child to ensure they feel excited, comfortable, and genuinely interested in participating. This is an active, hands-on learning experience; not only a chance to sit with animals. Each week, youth will be involved in age-appropriate tasks that support the shelter, including group activities, small projects, and contributing to the care and enrichment of our animals and their spaces.
We want every participant to feel welcome, engaged, and empowered. Let’s learn, grow, and make a positive impact together!
