Animal Aides Winter Club (ages 10-12)

The goal of Animal Aides is to familiarize young, future volunteers with how Calgary Humane society operates and how to sucessfully interact with a variety of animals. This involved program will help prepare your child for many of our volunteer positons that they may be interested in so that they can begin their volunteering journey with us!

Volunteering at Calgary Humane Society starts at age 14.

• Understand the importance of volunteer work within a non-profit organization.
• Become familiar with the roles and responsibilities for our several volunteer positions.
• Interact with our animals in shelter and be able to successfully identify body language in cats, dogs. bunnies and other exotics.
• Actively participate in shelter support by folding laundry, cleaning dishes, filling dog kongs and building enrichment toys for our critters.
• Participate in hands-on tasks such as cleaning kitty cabins and dog runs or assisting with the evening feedings.
• Enjoy participating in animal themed games and creative projects.
• Complete our Animal Aides club to feel confident and prepared for their potential volunteer role with us.

Before enrolling, we encourage families to discuss the program with their child to ensure they feel excited, comfortable, and genuinely interested in participating. This is an active, hands-on learning experience; not only a chance to sit with animals. Each week, youth will be involved in age-appropriate tasks that support the shelter, including group activities, small projects, shelter support, and contributing to the care and enrichment of our animals and their spaces.

We want every participant to feel welcome, engaged, and empowered. Together, we’ll learn new skills and help animals in need! Let’s learn, grow, and make a positive impact together!
