COVENANT presents: Jessica Shaw - ANIMA OCCULTA.
Opening Night: Wednesday 17th September.
Ends Tuesday 30th September.
Animist, self-taught multidisciplinary artist and musician, Jessica Shaw (Chthonia) creates images that are an explicit reflection of her spiritual praxis in traditional witchcraft. She believes that, through the witch, the invisible and subtle entities of spaces infernal and celestial shine their genius, to be refracted back into the world through ritual, craft and the forbidden arts.
Her various works across differing mediums consistently embody her consecration to darkness, beauty and realms chthonic. Jessica has gained infinite inspiration from working with what she calls “the Flowers of the Abyss”, devoting her life to give voice and visage to the possessing daemons who hide beneath botanical guise.
This collection of her work includes illustrations in watercolour and acrylic, photography, moving image and dark ambient soundscapes that venerate and make manifest the hidden phantoms of the Midnight Viridarium.
“I have always felt I have a powerful Muse who stands behind me, hands on my shoulders, pouring into my mind the colours and symbols that are the language of the gods. Through communication with celestial, botanical, and arboreal entities, images come to light in my mind. The oneiric forces behind these ikons demand that I bring these thoughts into form”.
