About this Event

Join us to explore the daily life of the Anglo-Saxons at a living history camp. Have the chance to witness a battle re-enactment & have a go yourself, take part in Anglo-Saxon themed crafts and activities, and get hands on with archaeological excavation! Open to all ages, all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Living history camp will include: clothing display, weapons display and demonstration, battle re-enactment, food demonstrations & even the chance to have a go at a battle re-enactment for children under 11!

Other activities included: a sandpit mini-dig, archaeology themed puzzle, and an Anglo-Saxon themed craft activity.

A full schedule of events will be available on the day from Priory Visitor Centre.

1. When should I arrive?

The living history camp is accessible throughout the day so you are more than welcome to arrive at any point during the day. The craft activity and other archaeology themed activities are also on throughout the day.

Battle re-enactment, clothing display, and Kiddie Vike are during specific times. A schedule of the day will be sent to your email closer to the day. The schedule will also be available at Priory Visitor Centre on the day.

2. What does the Anglo-Saxon weekend ticket include?

You will have the opportunity to visit our living history camp where you get to discover how the Anglo-Saxons lived! Included in this camp will be food demonstrations, clothing demonstrations, and a battle re-enactment. Children under 11 will also have the opportunity to take part in their own Anglo-Saxon battle.

Children can also enjoy the archaeology and Anglo-Saxon themed crafts and activities on offer which are included in the ticket price.

3. What is not included in the ticket price?

Food will be available from Giggly Pig Co and is not included in the ticket price and must be purchased separately.

4. What age is the Anglo-Saxon Weekend suitable for?

The Anglo-Saxon Weekend is aimed at everyone of any age!

Kiddie Vike is open to children under 11 only and participation is down to the discretion of the re-enacters hosting the event.

The Anglo-Saxon and archaeology themed crafts and activities are ideally suited for children between 3-10 years of age. Families are welcome to bring younger children along, but please be aware an activity may not be suitable.

5. How much does a ticket cost?

Tickets are £8 per person including children over 3. This includes access to the living history camp, access to Kiddie Vike, and access to the craft activities throughout the day.

Please note: Everyone over 3 years of age must have a valid ticket. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

6. Do I need to bring my printed ticket to the event?

If you do not have access to a printer, we will accept your ticket on your smartphone. If you are not able to hold your ticket on your phone, please make sure you have ID with you so we can find you on our Guest List.

7. Once booked can I change the day of the visit or have my ticket refunded?

No, unfortunately we are unable to change the date of the visit once booked. To avoid any disappointment, we would ask that before completing the purchase of tickets you are confident in being able to fulfil your booking.

Tickets are non-refundable and refunds will only be given if the event is cancelled.

8. Are there toilets available?

Yes, public toilets are available in the Priory Visitor Centre, including accessible facilities

9. Is there room for wheelchairs?

The event is taking place in Priory Park in the space behind Prittlewell Priory. The path is accessible but some spaces will be on the grass. Please note some pathways in Priory Park may be uneven.

10. Are Covid19 restrictions still in place?

Face coverings are now a personal choice but are encouraged whilst inside if you're inside Priory and the Visitor Centre.

If anyone in your party has symptoms of or has tested positive for Covid19 please do not attend the event.

11. Can I leave my children?

No, all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.
