The Wilmington Drama League is honored to announce auditions for the 2025-2026 season opener, Tony Kushner’s Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning epic, Angels in America. We will be presenting both Part 1: Millenium Approaches (September 12-21) & Part 2: Perestroika (October 10-19). Actors who wish to be considered MUST be available for both parts.
Set in 1985, Angels in America follows the intersecting lives of individuals living in New York City during the beginning of the AIDS epidemic. Director, Dominic Santos, seeks eight strong and versatile actors to bring this important story to life.
When:
Tuesday, 4/22. Sign-in begins at 6:30pm. Auditions begin at 7pm. Please be signed in by 8:30pm.
Saturday, 4/26. Sign-in begins at 1:30pm. Auditions begin at 2pm. Please be signed in by 3:30pm.
Callbacks will be held on Saturday, 5/3 at 12pm and are by invitation only.
If you are unable to attend auditions, video submissions will be accepted. All submissions must be in by Saturday, 4/26 at 3:30pm.
What to prepare:
Please be prepared to read a side from the script for the role(s) you wish to be considered for. The sides can be found at the link below. Memorization is not required.
Rehearsals will be held based on actors’ availability and will be held three to four evenings/days a week beginning in late May. Please bring all known conflicts to the audition.
***Angels in America contains strong and violent language and situations exploring homophobia, racism, antisemitism, and miscarriage. Intimacy is required for all roles with some roles requiring partial/full nudity. Actors must be at least 18 years of age.***

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
BELIZE: he/him, 25-40, Black. Registered nurse, former drag queen, Prior’s ex-boyfriend and best friend. Stylish, caring, vibrant, intelligent, and fed up with the sociopolitical atmosphere.
This actor will also play MR. LIES- A travel agent and figment of Harper’s hallucinations, and others.
HANNAH PITT: she/her, 50-65, White. Joe’s mother and devout Mormon. Trying to find her place in the world after the death of her husband and her only son moving across the country. A little judgmental with a chilly demeanor.
This actor will also play RABBI ISIDOR CHEMELWITZ- an elderly orthodox Jewish rabbi, HENRY- Roy’s doctor, ETHEL ROSENBERG- ghost of a real-life figure executed for treason who haunts Roy, and others. Singing a plus.
HARPER PITT: she/her, 25-35, White. An agoraphobic Mormon with a Valium addiction. Married to Joe.
This actor will also play MARTIN HELLER- a Reagan Administration Justice Department flack-man, and others.
JOSEPH PITT: he/him, 25-35, White. Harper’s husband and Hannah’s son. Republican lawyer working alongside Roy Cohn. Grappling with the conflict between his Mormon faith and suppressed homosexuality.
This actor will also play PRIOR 1- the ghost of a dead Prior Walter. A blunt, grim, medieval farmer who speaks with a Yorkshire accent, and others.

LOUIS IRONSON: he/him, 25-35, White, Jewish. Prior’s boyfriend and court clerk. Intelligent, idealistic, neurotic, anxious, and full of self-loathing and guilt.

PRIOR WALTER: he/him, 30, White. Louis’s uptight, bourgeois, WASP boyfriend. Former drag queen who works as a club designer/caterer but mostly lives off a trust fund. Extremely charismatic and witty. Diagnosed with AIDS and struggling with his mortality.
This actor will also play THE MAN IN THE PARK- a man Louis encounters while cruising for sex in Central Park.

ROY COHN: he/him, 59, White, Jewish. An influential and successful lawyer and powerbroker. McCarthy’s right-hand man during the House Unamerican Activities trials. Smart, charismatic, cunning, venomous. Closeted homosexual who is dying of AIDS.
This actor will also play PRIOR 2- the ghost of a dead Prior Walter. A Londoner from the seventeenth century. A Restoration-era sophisticate who speaks with an elegant English accent, and others.
THE ANGEL: she/they, 30-50, White or White passing. A divine presence who ascends from heaven to bestow a prophecy onto Prior. Imposing, terrifying, and fabulous. Full of intensity.
This actor will also play EMILY- Prior’s warm-hearted nurse, SISTER ELLA CHAPTER- a Mormon real estate agent, HOMELESS WOMAN- an unmedicated mentally ill woman who lives on the streets of South Bronx, and others.
