Join us for a special Design Week workshop where we explore the power of monochrome painting as a way to express emotion and meaning. Led by artist Angelina Mirabito, this immersive session invites you to reflect on the beauty and complexity of what mother means to you—whether as a figure, a concept, or an emotional experience.

Through the use of a single colour palette, you’ll discover how texture, contrast, and depth can bring your personal narrative to life on canvas.

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll:

  • Experiment with monochrome techniques to create powerful visual impact.
  • Explore how emotion can be translated through tone, texture, and form.
  • Create your own 40cm x 40cm artwork to take home.

No prior painting experience is required—just a willingness to explore and express.

  • Limited to 12 participants – early booking recommended!
  • Cost: $70 (includes booking fee) (includes booking fee & free to Gladstone Residents using
  • code provided.)
  • All materials provided
  • Light refreshments included – Enjoy a selection of beverages and snacks.

About the Artist

Melbourne-based artist Angelina Mirabito brings a background in Creative Writing (PhD) and a practice shaped by her Italian heritage. Also using unconventional materials and tools—palette knives, sticks, hands, and ladles—she builds layered surfaces that translate internal experiences into vibrant, tactile paintings. Her work explores the intersection of emotion, movement, and materiality, drawing attention to the physical and sensory depth of abstract expression.

The exhibition and all events are designed to be inclusive and welcoming to all visitors.
