CURATORIAL STATEMENTHead High Second Floor proudly presents Angel City Blues, a photography exhibition by Vinai Dithajohn, a photographer and people history recorder. This exhibition takes audiences on a bittersweet journey around Bangkok, a city that has grown with a centralized development. People from other provinces and countries has migrated here in search of hope. Meanwhile, buildings, roads and structures are expanding due to an accelerating pace of economic growth. However, sidewalks are shrinking, leaving small people with little or no public space. These individuals are marginalized, pushed into crime-ridden slums. Vinai’s intimate photography brings us face-to-face with strangers, allowing us to experience and understand Bangkok in a way we've never experienced before. Angel City Blues began with the chapter "Addiction and Redemption”, which chronicled Vinai's career as a photojournalist, covering the facts of the Thai Rak Thai Party's 2003 war against drugs. He got in touch with those in the drug world and documents the lives of drug addicts and inmates, as members of society. Vinai then takes us on a tour of meeting the urban people who are left behind by city development. Vinai’s job as a delivery rider via a mobile application allows him to explore the city's nooks and crannies with his camera. This exhibition explores the underrepresented people of our capital city. Vinai's close-up photographs emphasize their existence and nature, grounded in the belief that all humans are equal. The exhibition is divided into sections showing people on the streets of Bangkok, their homes, their livelihoods, and their spaces for expressing their identities. Set against separate background of day and night : the "People of the Night" section explores the lives of people in red-light districts, night shift workers, and the homeless. While “Day Drifters” explores the lives of urban people in daytime, also events of the 2011 floods, undeniably attributed to global warming and demonstrating the state's ineffectiveness, which turned out to encourage people to support each other to survive the toughest time. “Day Drifters” also explores people during political protests in central Bangkok highlight the centralized concentration of power in the capital. And people from all over the country who seek to assert their rights must travel from their homes to here. The Angel City Blues exhibition will be on display at Head High Second Floor from December 20, 2025, to January 30, 2026, with an opening ceremony on December 20, 2025.
Head High Second Floor ภูมิใจเสนอ Angel City Blues นิทรรศการภาพถ่ายศิลปะโดย วินัย ดิษฐจร ช่างภาพนักบันทึกประวัติศาสตร์ประชาชน ที่จะพาผู้ชมไปสัมผัสชีวิตที่สุขปนเศร้าของมนุษย์แห่งกรุงเทพมหานคร เมืองที่เติบโตแบบรวมศูนย์ความเจริญไว้ที่ส่วนกลาง ผู้คนต่างด้าวจากจังหวัดอื่นและประเทศอื่นอพยพเข้ามามากขึ้นเพื่อหาโอกาสทำกิน ในขณะเดียวกัน ตึกและสิ่งปลูกสร้างและเลนถนนก็ขยายตามอัตราเร่งของความเจริญทางเศรษฐกิจ แต่ทว่าพื้นที่ทางเท้ากลับถูกเบียดบังให้แคบลงจนคนตัวเล็กๆ แทบไม่มีพื้นที่สาธารณะในแบบเดิม คนตัวเล็กลีบลง ถูกขับให้ออกไปเป็นคนชายขอบ แออัดอยู่ในสลัม ที่เต็มไปด้วยปัญหาอาชญากรรม ภาพถ่ายระยะประชิดในแบบคลุกวงในได้พาเราไปสบตาคนแปลกหน้า เพื่อรู้สึกและเข้าใจความเป็นกรุงเทพมหานครในแบบที่ไม่เคยมองมาก่อน Angel City Blues มีจุดเริ่มต้นจากภาค Addiction and Redemption ซึ่งเล่าถึงเหตุการณ์ซึ่งวินัยทำหน้าที่เป็นช่างภาพข่าวผู้ติดตามข้อเท็จจริงเกี่ยวกับสงครามที่รัฐบาลพรรคไทยรักไทยต่อต้านยาเสพติดในปี 2003 เมื่อเขาเข้าไปคลุกคลีกับผู้คนในแวดวงยาเสพติด รวมถึงการเข้าไปบทึกภาพสารคดีเกี่ยวกับวิถีชีวิตของผู้บำบัดและผู้ต้องขังจากคดียาเสพติด เพื่อบันทึกภาพของพวกเขาในฐานะสมาชิกของสังคม หลังจากนั้นวินัยได้พาผู้ชมไปเฝ้ามองผู้คนในเมืองซึ่งต่างถูกทิ้งไว้เบื้องหลังจากการพัฒนาเมือง โดยอาชีพที่วินัยทำควบคู่กับบทบาทช่างภาพ คือการเป็นพนักงานไรเดอร์ส่งของผ่านบริการแอพพิเคชันมือถือ ซึ่งช่วยให้เขาได้ตระเวณพกกล้องถ่ายรูปไปสำรวจซอกหลืบของเมืองไปในตัว นิทรรศกานี้เล่าถึงเพื่อนมนุษย์ที่อาศัยอยู่ในด้านที่ไม่ได้ถูกนำเสนอให้เป็นความน่าภูมิใจของเมืองหลวง ภาพถ่ายในระยะประชิดของวินัยให้ความสำคัญต่อความมีตัวตนและธรรมชาติของคนเหล่านี้ บนพื้นฐานความเชื่อที่ว่ามนุษย์ทุกคนเท่ากัน นิทรรศการแบ่งตอนให้เห็น ผู้คนบนท้องถนนของกรุงเทพฯ ซึ่งเป็นทั้งที่อยู่อาศัย แหล่งทำมาหากิน เป็นพื้นที่แสดงออกถึงอัตลักษณ์และตัวตนของพวกเขา โดยมีฉากหลังกลางวันและกลางคืนแยกจากกัน ในส่วนของ People of the night วินัยพาผู้ชมไปสัมผัสชีวิตของผู้คนในย่านเริงรมย์ เหล่าพนักงานกะดึก รวมถึงคนจรไร้บ้าน และในส่วน Day Drifters เป็นการสำรวจชีวิตของผู้คนในตอนกลางวัน และผู้ประสบภัยจากเหตุอุทกภัยใหญ่ปี 2011 ที่ยากจะปฏิเสธว่าเป็นผลพวงจากภาวะโลกร้อน และยังสะท้อนความขาดประสิทธิภาพของรัฐ ที่ผลักดันให้ประชาชนต้องช่วยเหลือเกื้อกูลกันเอง รวมไปถึงภาพถ่ายผู้คนในเหตุการณ์ประท้วงเชิงการเมืองกลางกรุงเทพฯ ซึ่งสะท้อนการรวมศูนย์อำนาจไว้ที่เมืองหลวงเพียงจุดเดียว และผู้คนทั่วประเทศที่อยากเรียกร้องสิทธิส่วนใหญ่ต้องเดินทางเข้ามาที่นี่เท่านั้น นิทรรศการ Angel City Blues จัดแสดงที่ Head High Second Floor ตั้งแต่ 20 ธันวาคม 2025 จนถึง 30 มกราคม 2026 และมีพิธีเปิดนิทรรศการในวันที่ 20 ธันวาคม ตั้งแต่เวลา 6 โมงเย็นเป็นต้นไป
