Andy Mattox's life significantly changed on August 31, 2021. Andy nearly lost his life while running fiber optic lines from a bucket truck near some electrical lines. He sustained electrical burns throughout his body including both arms. Andy's left arm was amputated at the shoulder and he lost most functional use of his right hand. He started Outpatient Occupational Therapy (OT) in the Fall of 2021. From the start of therapy, he was extremely motivated and determined to complete any task or challenge presented to him no matter how daunting. He achieved higher levels of functional independence in activities of daily living that far exceeded his OT's expectations considering his limited movement of right hand. Although he had many successes during his recovery he also experienced many setbacks and frustrations. In the fall of 2022 he attended the Skills for Life (SFL) workshop. His perspective on his injuries and struggles immediately shifted. Being able to meet others with bilateral limb loss of various ages and stages of life and seeing how they were living full, happy lives was extremely inspiring. SFL workshop not only provided Andy with helpful resources it also helped him feel not as alone in his struggles. It provided him with a rejuvenated energy, hope and determination to not only focus on his recovery but also start focusing on truly living his life again. He began participating in fun activities that he had not yet returned to since being injured like bowling and traveling to visit family and friends. He also began feeling a strong new purpose in his life. He felt compelled to figure out a way to help ESFL continue their amazing work in providing positive experiences and opportunities for the bilateral upper limb loss/limb difference community. He also knew that adding more fun and rock and roll to anyone's life is always a good idea! Andy truly is one of a kind. Website Link: https://www.enhancingskillsforlife.org/andy-rocknbowl-fundraiser
