On a clear morning, Christchurch residents have an awesome view across the Canterbury plains to the peaks of the Southern Alps.Andy Buchanan's self-imposed retirement challenge was to climb all the visible peaks from Mt Peel to the Kaikouras, and everything in between, including Mt Cook and over a hundred more.

Andy Buchanan is a semi-retired engineer who taught for many years at the University of Canterbury. He is still climbing, scrambling, tramping and skiing all over the South Island.
