AKA- Is a 43 year old hailing from Olympia Washington whose blend of Conscious Hip-hop and instrumentals from SmokeM2D6 provide for a very deep felt experience that leaves audiences feeling vulnerable yet safe. A formula AKA holds to the brightest of lights and makes him a local favorite. He tackles concepts that stand the test of time and always tend to have an overall positive yet not naive attitude to his approach. With DJ Red Pepper dave on the 1s and 2s being a perfect complement it's always a good time. As a touring act he has touched many stages from Ampitheatres to intimate settings and has an arrangement of music for both and has opened for acts such as KRS-1, Naughty By Nature and Devin the Dude as well as a litany of underground artist such as Del the funky homosapien, Sage Francis and Blackalicious. Wordplay T. Jay
WordPlay T. Jay is a Hip Hop Artist, Music Producer, Podcaster, and Music Business YouTuber who makes "Music for the Underdog". That music is the soundtrack for everyone who has the willingness to persevere through the odds. His philosophy shows up on his YouTube channel where he shares music business advice to other artists, on the No Rhyme or Reason Podcast with co-host Icarus Gray, and in his growing collection of songs and albums on streaming platforms.
In 2005, he founded On The Map Entertainment, now called On The Map Music Group, after meeting Russel Simmons at a Def Jam scouting tour. Shortly after he released his first underground album, Husler's Ambition.
In 2008, T. Jay dropped It Was Written - a boon to On The Map as the first commercial album available digitally
Later in 2010, T. Jay released a single called, "Breakfast & Biggie" which gained praise from Ja Rule and Sway Calloway when they reviewed on MTV's RapFix Live. Following that airing, T. Jay released his mixtape, Nothin' Less and began touring the country.
He continued to pursue his independent career by releasing album consistently 72701 Stories (2013), The Cycle (2014), Job Application (2016), Orientation Day (2018), and Overtime (2020). His last album, Overtime, is the final release in a series about living out your dream job. It is the perfect bookend to albums that explores balancing a 9 to 5 and working for yourself.
T. Jay is currently working on his 9th studio album, terry which reflects on his life story, his trauma, and shedding the person he was in the past. The first single, "JAM", is a fun, guitar driven, track that is all about expression. He adds witty and exciting lyrics to an instrumental that keeps you bouncing. The goal is to get you to live out the things that are your "JAM".
