PEOPLE OF THE SUN
Brace yourself for a sonic experience like no other – Aotearoa's People of the Sun have arrived. This powerhouse trio, made up of seasoned NZ musicians Joseph Anderson, Djordje Nikolic, and Tom Scrase, melds rock, soul, jazz, and indigenous sounds into a fierce and evocative new form. Their music doesn’t just echo through speakers – it conjures the landscapes of Aotearoa and the stories of its people.
Now, after electrifying audiences with their charged live performances, People of the Sun are beyond excited to unleash their self-titled debut album. Crafted with precision and passion, the record was mixed by Lee Prebble at The Surgery in Pōneke, ensuring a sound that’s as immersive as it is unforgettable.
“Our goal was to create an album that feels as deeply connected conceptually and emotionally as the records that shaped us,” the band shares. “The albums we loved weren’t just collections of songs – they carried us somewhere, unfolding as a complete, powerful experience.”
Get ready to be transported. People of the Sun is here.
THE UNDERBELLIES (feat. Terry Jackson)
The Underbellies, a pop-rock outfit from Palmerston North, are putting the finishing touches to "The wrong train to Bruges", a full album with strong European electropop vibes. Founded as a pop-rock duo by "Lodge" Mark Boyes and Pietro Cariga in 2022, they collaborated with several local artists to record their first singles and perform live shows. Since 2024 they have been joined by "Uncle" Alan Clark (harmonica, keyboards, lyricist), Tyson Bromley (drums), and Andy Dunbar (guitars and vocals). The band members currently cover the full generation spectrum: a boomer, two Gen X, a millennial and a Gen Z. For their show at Snails they will be supported by the beats of Terry Jackson, a Whanganui-based eclectic, talented drummer who often adds to their sound in live shows. They developed a full, compact sound matched with a quirky song-writing style. Their songs touch wide ranging themes including life reflections, spirituality, mannerisms, popular culture jargon, weird dreams content, travel experiences, and local stories (i.e. "Mount Cleese" and "The witch of Linton"). They are anything but a one-track-band, and their live shows combine the use of two guitars, two synths, drums, bass, percussions, harmonica, and up to four vocal layers. The Underbellies are independent artists who write, record and perform their original music, exploring sounds from the 80s/90s, and publish their music on all main streaming platforms. Their music style ranges from rock blues to synth-pop, with more than a few nods at hard rock and prog. They record their music at their own Waterford Studios in Te Papaioea.
