Star of the BBC's popular ancient Egypt series "Immortal Egypt", Prof Joann Fletcher explores some of the famous and less well known royal women of ancient Egypt.Joann's talk will start promptly at 11am and last until 12.30pm.
About Prof Joann Fletcher
Joann is Visiting Professor at the University of York where she co-founded the university Mummy Research Group in 1999 to study mummified human remains around the world. These include the bodies of Tutankhamun's family, Queen Nefertari, married couple Kha and Meryt and priest Nesyamun in addition to her work in Yemen, Italy, Ireland, Peru and Chile. Jo is also Lead Local Ambassador for the Egypt Exploration Society, patron of Barnsley Museums & Heritage Trust for whom she curates exhibitions, and has been researching Bolton's Egyptian collection since 1988. She has published widely in archaeological and scientific journals, in The Guardian, Telegraph and BBC History Magazine, and has so far written 10 books translated into seven languages including 'The Story of Egypt', 'Cleopatra the Great' and 'The Search for Nefertiti' (all Hodder & Stoughton). She appears regularly on documentaries, including the 2011 BAFTA-winning documentary 'Mummifying Alan: Egypt's Last Secret' and the History Channel's 'Mummy Forensics' series, and has written and presented several series for BBC2 including 'Immortal Egypt with Joann Fletcher'.
