Prof Joann Fletcher is Visiting Professor at the University of York where she co-founded the Mummy Research Group in 1999 to study mummified human remains around the world. These include the bodies of Tutankhamun's family, Queen Nefertari, married couple Kha and Meryt and priest Nesyamun in addition to her work in Yemen, Italy, Ireland, Peru and Chile. Joann is also Lead Local Ambassador for the Egypt Exploration Society, patron of Barnsley Museum and Heritage Trust for whom she curates exhibitions, and has been researching Bolton's Egyptian collection since 1988. She has published widely in archaeological and scientific journals, in the Guardian, Telegraph and BBC History Magazine, and has so far written 10 books translated into seven languages including 'The Story of Egypt', 'Cleopatra the Great' and 'Search for Nefertiti' (all Hodder & Stoughton). She appears regularly on documentaries, including the 2011 BAFTA-award winning documentary 'Mummifying Alan: Egypt's Last Secret' and the History Channel's 'Mummy Forensics' series, and has written and presented several series for BBC2 including 'Immortal Egypt with Joann Fletcher'.
