Learn the most important factors for creating a successful painting. Experience the process of putting those factors to work. Let yourself be creative. We will examine the necessary elements of abstract landscape design and translate that to a beautiful painting. We will create striking images of real or imagined places. David will demonstrate his process and guide you as you create artwork with renewed vision. Demonstrations will be in oil but students can paint in oil or acrylic.
Supply List
- Please bring several photos of subjects you would like to paint. Copy them in black and white.
- Bring some paper to draw on and a soft dark pencil or charcoal pencil.
- Canvas: two medium sizes like 12x16, 16x20, 18x24, 20x20 or 24x24. Bring a small painting that you don’t like and would like to paint over.
- Palette knives: medium sized knives, such as RGM #30, 49, 50 and 70
- Optional brushes: round bristle brush #8, other brushes to your preference
- Gamsol Odorless Mineral spirits if you are painting in oil
- Cotton rags/ paper towels
- Palette box/ disposable palette paper
Paint colors:
- Titanium White
- Ultramarine Blue
- Sap Green
- Cadmium Red Medium or Vermillion
- Burnt Sienna
- Cadmium Yellow Medium or Cadmium Lemon
- Yellow Ochre
- Raw Umber
- other colors that you like
Level 1: Beginner
This class is appropriate for beginner to advanced painters. Covers the basic techniques of the medium and offers individual assistance. No prior experience is required.
