Theatre Bristol announces performances of favorite "Schoolhouse Rock LIVE! Jr.," presented by Theatre Bristol Youth Academy. Theatre Bristol Youth Academy, a program of the Catherine DeCaterina School of Theatre Arts, is a semester-long course with a focus on practical application of theatre technique, culminating in school and public performances. Students ages 9 to 18, regardless of theatre experience, all find a role in this production.
"Schoolhouse Rock LIVE! Jr." will take the Cameo stage October 25, 2025 with morning and matinee performances. Performances will be held at Cameo Theatre (703 State Street, Bristol, VA).
TBYA leaps from the screen in the TV favorite Schoolhouse Rock LIVE! Jr. when teacher Tom Mizer wakes up and prepares for his first day of school. He is pulled into the world of Schoolhouse Rock with "A Noun Is A Person, Place, Or Thing," "Three Is A Magic Number," "Unpack Your Adjectives," "Just A Bill," "The Preamble," "Do The Circulation," "Conjunction Junction," "Great American Melting Pot," "Elbow Room," "Interplanet Janet," and "Interjections".
While in classes, students get an immersive experience in creating a production; not only are they the actors, they learn about direction, casting, stage management, choreography, music, scenic and costume design, props management and creation, lighting, sound, and more! Theatre Bristol Youth Academy students are introduced to topics and concepts that make them well-rounded theatre artists.
Based on the popular television show, "Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr." is a fun and educational show that teaches students and audiences of all ages that learning is fun. The show features music and lyrics by Bob Dorough, Dave Frishberg, George Newall, Kathy Mandry, Lynn Ahrens, and Tom Yohe; and a book by George Keating, Kyle Hall, and Scott Ferguson.
Teaching and directing the fun throwback is Theatre Bristol veteran director, Camille Gray, with assistance from Theatre Bristol staff, volunteers, and board members.
Schoolhouse Rock LIVE! Jr. is presented through special arrangement with and all authorized materials are supplied by Music Theatre International 423 West 55th Street, New York, NY 10019 (212) 541-4684, mtishows.com.
"Schoolhouse Rock LIVE! Jr." is a part of Theatre Bristol’s 60th 2025 Season of comedies, dramas, and musicals, including "Lessons from Shakespeare: How to Avoid a Personal Tragedy" with River’s Way, "Land of Jesters" & "Rumpelstiltskin," "Steel Magnolias," Roald Dahl’s "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," “The Odd Couple," “The Mockingbird Sings,” "Irving Berlin’s White Christmas," and "Yes, Virginia, There Is A Santa Claus" radio play, and the Cathy DeCaterina School of Theatre Arts classes, PLAYtime in the ARTspace, The StART of Adventure summer camp, and workshops.
Founded in 1965 by Cathy DeCaterina, Theatre Bristol is a 60-year-old community theatre serving all ages that also has the distinction as the oldest continually running children’s theatre in northeast Tennessee, with a long history continuing to serve southeast Virginia. Its seasons consist of drama, comedy, and musical productions that take place in downtown Bristol at Paramount Bristol, in its blackbox ARTspace Theatre, and at the Cameo Theatre, and educational opportunities provided by our School of Theatre Arts. Theatre Bristol is a volunteer-operated community organization and we invite the community to get involved.
