About this Event
Join Raphael Sbarge as we screen and discuss his documentary "Only in Theaters" on Wednesday, March 12 at 7 p.m. in the Mackay Room.
After the film, we are hoping the subject of the film, Greg Laemmle, will be able to join the discussion on Zoom.
"Only in Theaters" is about one man’s mission to save his families’ movie theaters. We follow Greg Laemmle and his family, a Jewish immigrant family who escaped the Holocaust, and started an art house cinema in Los Angeles, now 85 years ago. They have an astounding Hollywood legacy story— going back to their cousin Carl Laemmle, who founded Universal Pictures. But beyond their outsized influence on movie history, this is a timely and inspiring story of a third generation family business, the love of going to the movies, and the future of exhibition.
The New York Times called it, “Undeniably compelling.” The LA Times called it “Beautiful and Complicated.” Variety said it was "2022’s most emotional theatrical experience.” The Forward said it’s a “Funny, heartbreaking and moving story about the power of movies." We have a 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
