CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOPJoin guest curator Anna Luth for an interactive creative writing workshop based on the group exhibition Multitudes. Take inspiration from the art in the gallery to create your own poetic response to the question, “How can stories transform the present and project the future?”
We will begin with a tour through the exhibition Multitudes at Art Gallery at Evergreen, which features artists who draw inspiration from fantasy, the influence of technology and stories of the cosmos that shape our experiences of the present.
As a group we will consider: How do stories transform the present and project the future? How do we relate to ourselves and the world around us? Participants will be encouraged to use close-looking strategies to reflect and follow their curiosity in the gallery. After engaging in self-directed writing time, participants will have the opportunity to share what they’ve written and observed. No writing experience required.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
How do stories transform the present and project the future? How do we relate to ourselves and the world around us? Looking to the stars and tracing the constellations offers a reminder of the expansiveness of time and the stories that situate us within the vastness of the universe. Multitudes is a group exhibition featuring work from Sonny Assu, Chun Hua Catherine Dong, Deborah Edmeades, Odera Igbokwe, Cheyenne Rain LeGrande ᑭᒥᐊᐧᐣ and Tatjana Mirkov-Popovicki.
Turning to the fantastical, the artists explore layers of identity as they traverse the present, untangle oppressive histories and imagine the future (and the self) as sites of renewal. Working across sculpture, painting, textiles, new media and video, the artists draw inspiration from fantasy, the influence of technology and stories of the cosmos that shape our experiences of the present.
