Jonathan was expecting an easy school project—visit an elderly resident, chat a little, maybe share a cookie. Instead, he got Mr. Martin: a professional grump with a talent for scowling. Determined to fulfill his assignment (and avoid failing), Jonathan keeps showing up, dodging Mr. Martin’s grumbles, bad jokes, and the occasional flying pillow. But as the weeks pass, Jonathan realizes there’s more to Mr. Martin than just crankiness—there’s a story, a past, and maybe even a heart under all that gruffness.
