Introducing Rachel Nicastro, Soprano & Grace Church in Newark's New Cantor, with Organist George Davey performing a diverse set of Marian Songs. Rachel Nicastro (soprano) is an active performer and liturgical musician in the New York metropolitan area. She currently serves as Cantor at Grace Church in Newark, NJ, and has also served as soprano & soloist at the Church of St. Luke and St. Matthew, St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church, and St. Francis of Paola in Brooklyn. In addition to her liturgical work, she sings with Downtown Voices, a critically acclaimed symphonic choir based at Trinity Church Wall Street.
Rachel has appeared on the operatic stage as Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Mimì (La Bohème), and Micaëla (Carmen), and as soloist in major sacred works including Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater and Handel’s Messiah. She completed her graduate studies in vocal performance at the University of Missouri and earned her undergraduate degree in music at Agnes Scott College.
A passionate interpreter of sacred music, Rachel is honored to bring her voice to this program of Marian Anthems, celebrating centuries of devotion to the Virgin Mary through song.
George Davey (organist) began his formal music studies in Jamaica, West Indies with Audrey Cooper and John Sears
and Dr. Kaestner Robertson among others. At age twelve, he began studying the organ and began his career
as a church musician, soon after studying again with Dr. Kaestner Robertson and later Dr. Max Miller
instrumental conducting with Toshimasa Francis Wada, Choral Conducting with Dr. James Bingham and Dr. James Johnson. Mr. Davey has gathered a wealth of experience in service playing in several congregations and was the accompanist for many choral ensembles in Kingston Jamaica, Massachusetts, New York City and New Jersey. While serving as an accompanist, he has performed both locally, and internationally in places like Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Grand Cayman Islands, Barbados, Canada and throughout the United States including appearances at The Washington National, Cathedral and The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington D.C., Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, St. Bartholomew's Church, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, St. John the Divine Cathedral, Riverside Church and Carnegie Hall in New York City. For 12 years, Mr. Davey was the accompanist for the Concert Chorus and on the faculty of the Newark Boys Chorus in Newark, New Jersey, and has
performed with them across the USA, Grand Cayman, Britain, Wales, Spain & Portugal Canada and throughout the United States. This recipient of the “outstanding citizen” citation from New York City as an active organist, accompanist & conductor.
Mr. Davey holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Atlantic Union College and a Master of Sacred Music degree from Boston University. He is an active member of the American Guild of Organists and The American Choral Directors Association.
