The directorial debut of John Huston co-stars Mary Astor as the femme fatale client, with Peter Lorre and Sydney Greenstreet as unscrupulous villains. The film, notable for its cast, crisp dialogue, and dramatic cinematography, was one of the first 25 films the Library of Congress inducted into the National Film Registry as “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
